1969 - Apollo 12 astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean land at Oceanus Procellarum ("Ocean of Storms") and become the third and fourth humans to walk on the Moon.
(I remember trying to talk my mother into letting me skip school that day so I could spend my birthday watching the moon walk. She was having none of it.)

1935 - Bob Gibson, baseball player
(That's one hellacious battery.)

1828 - Franz Schubert, Austrian composer (b. 1797)
(The only Casper cartoon I ever liked was the one where he helps Schubert's ghost finish the "Unfinished Symphony.")
