So, the most recent work project from hell is safely finished, and I can actually get out of here at a reasonable hour for a change. Which means it's time to do some Christmas shopping. <crickets...>

I did manage to pick up a few things the other night, but I still need gifts for 5 siblings, 4 nephews, 3 nieces, 2 good friends, and a sister-in-a-pear-treelaw. Plus three BiLs and brother #1's GF. And I have exactly zero motivation to do any of this.

It's not so much that I mind going out and braving the crowds. It's that I have absolutely no idea what to get anyone, so it's not so much searching for a gift as figuring out what to give in the first place. The brothers and BiL's are especially tough. I suspect it's going to be an impulse buy Christmas. Or maybe a gift card Christmas. Fa la la di dah...

I was reading [livejournal.com profile] casperflea's post about how it's kind of a drag to be spoiled for a good present. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised when you open the box, and everything in it is unexpected and just neat. It occurred to me that Secret Santa gifts are almost always surprises, given that you have no idea who's even giving you the present until it arrives.

Ooh, look at the time. Shopping ho! (ho ho)

She's totally right. Last year I got just about the best presents I could get from my fam (Firefly and Pirates of the Carib DVDs and a Tivo) and while I was delighted to have them, I pretty much knew what was coming so there wasn't the big squee that there might've been. And I felt like such a grinch.

This year there's nothing I particularly want, so I have no idea what I might end up getting. And I'm actually pretty happy about that.

brother #1's GF

Heh. I first read that as "brother's #1 GF, which made me do a double take... and think, "He has more than one, and he ranks them? And DX buys a present according to who is #1? Hmmm, I think I might have read that wrong..." Uh, yeah. Little bit.

I have bought exactly one present so far.

Everybody's getting stuff they need, and none of us can really afford (at least guiltwise, you know how that is) to get for ourselves. So there's not a lot of jolly in our neck of the woods, either. Still, it could be much worse, and we will have a pleasant, perhaps even a happy holiday.

I'm wishing you the same, or--better! Yeah, better would be great!
