The latest meme, snagged from [livejournal.com profile] helvirago

Invent a memory of me and post it in the comments. It can be anything you want, so long as it's something that's never happened. Then, of course, post this to your journal and see what people would like to remember of you, only the universe failed to cooperate in making it happen so they had to make it up instead.

Oh, backstage at that Kinks gig at Winterland in San Francisco in 1974. Remember? Ray was telling rude stories about his brother and everyone just kept embellishing and getting more and more outrageous.

Remember going out afterward for a late-night visit to that great little nightclub on Market Street? Two really good local bands, and one of them covered "Waterloo Sunset" and they never knew Ray was in the audience.

That time last spring when you showed me your favorite bike trail. We rode for miles with hardly a word. I tried not to show how hard I had to work to get up that second hill. The effort was repaid though, when we coasted by the edge of the lake and there were a family of ducks in the water, fluffy yellow babies on their parents' backs like cars clustered on a ferry.

I like the time you came over and helped me figure out how to fit my new bookcase through my front door without breaking it into several small pieces. And then we went out for Mexican food, and we stayed there until everyone else had gone home, but we didn't notice, because we were too busy laughing.

The time we sat out on the back porch, throwing snowballs at the ghosts. I think the ghosts were as entertained as we were; afterward, anyway, they stopped haunting your back shed and moved to the kitchen.

Remember that September night when the wind howled and the rain drummed against your house like they wanted in? Not that one could blame them; we had a roaring fire, mulled wine, and a cribbage board. Hell, it took us a couple of hours to even notice that the power was off. Then you told us ghost stories and I made you stay up all night because I was too scared to go upstairs.

ROAD TRIP! We hit all the major league parks (and a few minor league ones) in the NE and some in the mid-atlantic states. Stopping along the way for greasy spoon diners, old-timey drive-ins (for vanilla-cokes for me), airfields, and antique shops. You put up with me chatting the whole time and singing at least every other song on the radio.

Next time we need to head out towards Chicago.

I remember driving down to NJ to see you pitch AAA baseball. (It's too damn bad what happened with your rotator cuff!!!) I was really glad to have seen that game, it's the only no-run game I've ever seen in person!

I'll never forget watching you paint the garage chartreuse. You didn't tell me until much later that it was your next-door neighbor's garage.

Remember the 4th of July party? The softball game that never quite got off the ground, maybe because all of us had had a few too many beers by that time. You manning the grill, making sure all the food was done just right, and then all of us relaxing on picnic blankets to watch the fireworks.
