Strange Days Indeed

The Phoenix is down, apparently due to a server overload. Idle speculation is that it might have something to do with someone helpfully posting a link to a post regarding the future of Buffy in one of the threads. Sigh...

In other news, I shaved off my beard and mustache this morning. Now my face feels strange, and I don't really recognize the person I see in the mirror. How odd. The last time I went beardless was maybe about eight years ago, and the last time I had no mustache was 1984.

Went to Sandi and Blake's last night for a game night. Lots of fun until I tried to leave. Their driveway is almost a thousand feet long through the woods, and with all the snow, there was no way to turn around. So I managed to get stuck bad trying to back out. Fortunately, Blake was able to pull my car back onto the driveway so I could try again. I miss four-wheel drive.

This morning it's off to NJ for me.

Friday Five

1. What is your most prized material possession?

There are a few things, all of them remembrances of particular events. One is a baseball that I got a bunch of Dodgers, most importantly Sandy Koufax, to autograph when I was in Vero Beach in 1989. Another is my Buffistas Class Protector medal. Another is a stuffed Opus that was given to me by a good friend some years ago. There are a few more things like that.

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?

Really hard to say, I still have a lot of things, like games and books, that I had in high school, or even grammar school. Maybe my original copy of All-Star Baseball (a game). I've probably had that since fifth or sixth grade. The oldest thing I have that is still in continuous use is a tie pin of a chess knight that I got in freshman year of high school.

3. Are you a packrat?

Oh yeah. Come by it genetically, as both of my parents are pack rats, too.

4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?

I prefer it clean, but it never is, and I don't mind clutter enough to do anything about it.

5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knickknacks here and there?.

Right now, there are no themes, unless chaos is a theme. There may be at some point, but that would involve work, so not bloody likely.

One of the things I don't miss about being married is the feeling that I'm living in someone else's house. I pretty much got NO say in how things were decorated, except for the room that was my office/den. I've seen this a lot. The husband gets one room for himself (unless there are children, then he's SOL), and possibly the basement. Everything else are belong to the wife.
